Miss O ‘Leary’s 5th Class, the Birch Class, were very lucky to have a visit from Dr. Amy Fahy, Trinity College, Dublin in April. She presented them with their Science Blast award and even did some experiments with the class while she was here. She was very impressed with their project on The White Deer of Mallow Castle. The girls had a fabulous day!

The Birch Class rooms(5th) went on a trip to Mallow Castle in March as part of their Science Blast project. The girls have been researching the white deer herd and  they met the grounds caretaker, Mr Ned Murphy, to interview him. Ned has been looking after the deer since 1968 and has a wealth of knowledge about them. The girls had lots of questions prepared and they learnt so much about the history of the deer, their diet, breeding and lots more. Thanks to Ned Murphy for meeting the girls and telling them so many interesting stories about the deer. We are lucky to have such a unique animal herd here in Mallow!

ESB Science Blast was a fun-filled, interactive way to engage with STEM skills as well as a great confidence-builder for pupils. The girls in the Elder Classroom and the Beech classroom(6th class) had great fun undertaking their experiments and were delighted to receive their Science Blast award.
