Environmental Care & Awareness/ Citizenship

In light of COP26 and to help combat climate change within our school environment and to support Self Help Africa’s One Million Trees Project for schools, tree saplings were planted in the school grounds. A selection of native Irish trees including birch, rowan and larch were planted. For every tree planted, 10 trees will be planted in Africa. We were delighted to take part in this campaign and look forward to watching the trees grow and to consider the impact even our small project will have.

Pupils in The Beech Class created fabulous PowerPoint presentations all about ‘Sustainability’. They discussed what they do individually and what our school does to use Earth’s resources responsibly. The girls researched companies like McDonalds, Adidas, Lego, Starbucks etc. to see what they are currently doing and what they plan to do in the future to operate sustainably. What action can you take in 2022?!

The Elder Classroom(6th Class) planted Crocus to mark World Polio day in association with Mallow Rotary Club. Our thanks to John Casey of Teagasc for helping and getting the children involved. Despite the rain it was well enjoyed by all.
